FROM BOOK IDEAS TO PUBLISHED MASTERPIECE-MEET YOUR WRITING COACH!
Hello author and writer friends,
In my short journey as a new indie author since 2016, I have met many fellow authors, writing professionals, and readers. Since the publishing of TigerFish, my memoir, many blogger friends, and readers have expressed interests in writing their memoirs or their parents' and wondered where and how they should start the writing process.
I feel that it's vital for beginners to join a private Facebook writing group where it's a safe, supportive, and nurturing an environment that aspiring and new writers/authors can feel comfortable meeting and exchange knowledge. This is a place to ask questions, share frustrations or joy, and get help from more experienced writers and the writing coach.
There are many such Facebook groups, and I will recommend a few this year. The first one I have the honor of featuring is the www.thewriterslounge.co, facilitated and advised by my guest JaQuette Gilbert. I met her in this group, and we've collaborated on a few projects. I have also met other authors and writers in her group with whom I've also worked with last year.
JaQuette is caring and passionate about helping women finding their voice and the courage to write and publish their work. She is knowledgeable, dependable, and follows through on her commitments.
This Meet and Greet blog is the first one of a two-part series where you'll meet and get acquainted with JaQuette, and learn about the support she provides to the private Facebook group. The second blog will follow next week where you'll get more information and the kind of resources that she provides for writers and authors.
Thank you for joining us.

Meet & Greet - JaQuette Gilbert
A Writing Coach
I’m JaQuette and I’m a wife and mother of three daughters. I have been in education for nine years and am now a School Counselor by day and a writer by night. I’ve loved writing and reading since I was a little girl. I gave up on my dream of becoming a published writer because I was told it wouldn’t be profitable. With the encouragement of a colleague, I started writing my first book in 2014 and self-published it the following year.
Please Describe Your Work.
I am an author and writer. I empower women to discover their truths, create authentic content, and proudly share their stories. I do this through my blog articles, books, Facebook group, writing challenges, and workshops. I have resources available to help writers take their book idea and create a detailed outline so they can easily write their masterpiece. I also provide resources to help writers with various parts of the writing and marketing process.
Please Share Something Most People Don't Know About You.
I absolutely love psychology and counseling-related subject matter. Reading about Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory in graduate school was such a life-changing moment for me. I developed quite a few negative thinking patterns growing up. Therefore, when I saw others who endured difficult past experiences become successful, I was amazed. I wanted to know how that was possible and how I could apply those lessons to my own life. Over time, I learned to combine Bronfenbrenner’s theory with the success stories I read about. This process eventually led to my first book, 11 Ways to Jumpstart Your Thinking. In this book, I share 11 tips for how we can achieve success simply by changing our mindset.
How Are You Different From Other Writing Coaches?
When creating resources and services for my readers, my goal is to focus on my strengths--teaching, motivating, and encouraging others to reach their goals. It is also important that whatever I do aligns with my overall vision and mission. I think it’s best for every writer to keep her goals in mind. This helps us to think less about competition and more about how we can reach our goals.
How Do You Want People to Think of You as a Subject Matter Expert?
I am constantly learning, however, I know how intentional journaling can shape one’s mindset and writing. My experience as a mental health worker has shown me the connection between our thoughts and our behavior. Intentional journaling is a great way to uncover and challenge the poor habits and thoughts we have.
Sometimes, we may find it beneficial to take those lessons we’ve learned through journaling, and share them with others in the form of blogging or writing books. I’m able to use my self-publishing experiences to assist writers with the writing and self-publishing process.
